Privacy policy
Most of what you tell Xhale never leaves your phone. This page explains exactly what does, where it goes and why.
What stays on your phone
Everything you enter while using Xhale is stored only on your device: your quiz answers and results, the habits you track and what they cost, your quit plan, your pledge and signature, your reasons for quitting, the symptoms you picked, what you log (use, slips and cravings), your if-then plans and your Coach chat history. We don't have a copy. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
Coach
Coach is an AI chat that runs on our server. When you send Coach a message, the app sends:
- your message and up to your last 30 Coach messages, so Coach can follow the conversation
- a short summary of your plan so replies are personal: which habits you're quitting and how, your day count, your reason for quitting, the symptoms you picked, your if-then plans and your local time
- an anonymous ID for your install or subscription (not your name or email)
Our server runs on Vercel and passes this to Anthropic's Claude API to write a reply. We don't log or store the content of your messages. Anthropic processes the request under its commercial terms, which don't allow it to train its models on this data. It may keep the request for a limited time for safety and abuse monitoring.
To prevent abuse, we count how many Coach messages each anonymous ID and IP address sends per day. Those counts are deleted after about a day.
If a message mentions self-harm or suicide, the app shows crisis support contacts. Coach isn't a crisis service. If you are in danger, call your local emergency number, or 988 in the US.
Subscriptions
Apple handles all payments. We never see your card details. We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID, your purchase and subscription history, and basic device and app information, such as the app version and your country, from Apple.
Usage analytics
We use PostHog to understand how the app is used, so we can fix confusing parts and see whether it helps people quit. It records which screens you open and a few key actions, such as finishing onboarding, starting a trial or opening SOS, along with an anonymous ID, your app version and basic device information. It never records what you type, your answers, your pledge or your Coach messages.
Notifications
Reminders, lung updates and savings messages are scheduled on your phone. They aren't sent from our server, and we don't collect a push token.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your data.
- We don't use advertising trackers or share data with advertisers.
- We don't ask for your name, email, contacts or location.
Age
Xhale is for adults aged 18 and over.
Your choices
- Delete the app to erase everything stored on your phone.
- Turn off notification access in your iPhone's Settings.
- Email us to ask what we hold about you or to ask us to delete it. We'll reply within 30 days. Because we don't store your content, there is usually nothing beyond anonymous usage data and subscription records.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects what leaves your phone, we'll tell you in the app first.
